First Race

Howdy pardners,

I spent the last week in Utah with my family and friends. It was such a great time except for that it was COLD. Seriously Utah, it's April.. get on board with spring already!

Earlier in the year my sis-in-law, Angie, talked me into doing a duathlon with her (run, bike, run).

Here were the goals I had in mind for this first race:
1. don't freeze to death
2. don't crash into anyone on the bike
3. don't look stupid
4. don't come in last

Very lofty goals for my first time don't ya think?

There was a long course option and a short course option.. we did the short course because the long course sounded like hell and we didn't train for that. :) The short course consisted of 1.5 mile run, 11.5 mile bike ride, 1.5 mile run. Not too bad for you hard core runners, for someone who can barely run 3 miles it was a challenge! I was worried about being cold too, and I was, but thankfully there was no wind so it could have been worse. I layered up and survived. The one thing I really wish I would have practiced was the transition from biking to running. Yikes. Seriously my legs felt semi-retarded when I tried to run again after the bike portion. Not to mention they were already on fire FROM the bike portion! We did it though and I am proud to say I finished it! And I think I met all of my goals except for maybe the looking stupid one!! ha ha

Here I am running along. Can't look much more awesome than that. :) Can you believe my husband actually took pictures without being provoked?

My awesome sista Angie. She is Raleigh's older sister. Funny thing is I actually met her before I ever knew Raleigh. We played soccer in high school together. love this girl!

My little cheering section (Luke stayed home with Grandma).

I guess I kinda get why people do these things now. It really was quite liberating to cross that finish line and it did motivate me these last few months to work out. Guess I better figure out what to sign up for next - especially since I have spent the last few days rewarding myself with Easter candy. :)

So impressive Tara! You've inspired me to get back in the race. I've been such a slacker in the exercise area lately!

Good job!! I'm just barely checking in and reading about your Duathlon. I'm very please to hear you enjoyed it and can now see the reasoning behind doing these races. The finish line is awesome. Sign up for a marathon!!
